It won the 2019 Digital Publishing Award for best digital column in Canada.

Awards season is segmented into distinct periods of speculation. "Don't worry", I told a group of folks who'd already rightfully given up.

The internet's yawn and eye-roll response suggests that while Oscar nominations might reflect the box office, and a win might still make a career, the films in the running don't really reflect contemporary society, and its diversity - particularly the war and crime films nominated within Best Director and Best Picture, which instead look to the past. Lina Wertmüller ("Seven Beauties"), Jane Campion ("The Piano"), Sofia Coppola ("Lost in Translation") and Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") were also nominated for best director.

Coming off a year where the primary two films celebrated were deemed wildly problematic in their representations of race (Green Book) and sexuality (Bohemian Rhapsody), it's hard to trust the Oscars to get it together in anytime soon.

To draw attention to the fact no women were nominated, she said, "And here are the all-male nominees". "And that's especially the case when you have a quality film like the one we did".

That's certainly making her thoughts known.
