Flu cases increasing in Wisconsin

With peak flu season in full swing and a sharp increase in the number of laboratory-confirmed influenza cases and hospitalizations reported statewide, the New York State Department of Health today reminded New Yorkers to start the New Year with a healthy focus and get a flu shot.

This early indicators are hinting that this season could be just as deadly, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases. So far this season in NY, 3,592 flu-related hospitalizations and one flu-associated pediatric death have been reported.

Numerous cases have been found in children under 10-years-old.

The city's health department says the most common flu viruses they're seeing this season are Influenza B and H1N1. CDC estimates there have been at least 6.4 million flu illnesses and 55,000 hospitalizations.

To get vaccinated for the flu check with your regular heath care provider or pharmacy to see if they have the flu vaccine available.

"Hopefully this turns around and comes down, but if it continues on the trajectory it's on, it's not going to be good", he said.

Their message to anyone with flu like symptoms to stay home.

Kane is still waiting to find out the extent of an injury to his left hamstring, sustained in the process of scoring a disallowed goal in the disappointing 1-0 defeat at Southampton on New Year's Day.

22 flu-related pediatric deaths have been reported nationwide this season.

The deadliest season was during the 2017-2018, which has killed 80,000.

"The only thing predictable about flu is that it's unpredictable".

Wisconsin and Minnesota have not escaped the wide spread number of flu cases.

The number of flu cases rose from 747 December 15-21 to 1,390 last week, an increase of 643 cases.

Data released Friday shows that Wisconsin has seen 459 hospitalizations for the flu this season - which officials say is more than three times as many as this time previous year.
