The "Beverly Hillbillies" Mansion Sells For CA Record

A Los Angeles mansion built in the 1930s and seen in the TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies" has been sold for about $150 million - the highest home price ever in California.

Lachlan Murdoch is the co-chairman of his father's company, News Corp, which owns publications including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post. "It is also the second most expensive residential sale ever recorded in the country, according to data from appraiser Jonathan Miller".

Even with its most recent price cut to $195 million in June 2019, it was still the most expensive home for sale on the Los Angeles market.

The four hectare estate in Bel-Air was last owned by Univision chair A. Jerrold Perenchio.

The real jolt might be that the 25,000-square-foot, French Neoclassical mansion is a fixer-upper.

Qantas Selects A350-1000 for Non-Stop Flights to London and NY
Airbus will install an additional fuel tank and increase its maximum takeoff weight to be able to operate Qantas missions. Qantas is now evaluating the feasibility of ultra-long-haul flights such as non-stop routes from London and NY to Sydney.

It features 18 bedrooms, 24 bathrooms, a ballroom and a five-bedroom guesthouse designed by well-known architect Wallace Neff. He also shelled out $15 million for the former home of President Ronald Reagan behind the main estate, and enhanced the main residence to feel like a "Versailles-like palace" with various restorations, the LA Times reports.

Besides offering a breath taking view of the Pacific Ocean and Los Angeles, Chartwell also offers a 75-foot pool, a tennis court, auto gallery for 40 cars, 12,000 bottle wine cellar, and a 5-bedroom guest house.

The estate carries an annual tax bill of $1.3 million, one of the highest in the Los Angeles area.

There is also a secret tunnel that runs from the basement, beneath the house and out to the 20-metre swimming pool.
