James Milner has signed a new three-year contract with Liverpool which will keep him at the club until 2022.

"When I see the development of the club and the collaborative work that continues to take place, I feel my contribution can only grow".

The Reds were beaten in both the EFL Cup and Europa League finals in the manager's first season, and they have shown vast progress from there.

"So these players need a perspective and they need to feel "if I go to Liverpool then I have the best chance compared to all the other top six clubs", for example, to make my first steps in the Premier League".

Liverpool's game against West Ham scheduled for next weekend has been postponed but they will need to recover quickly for a crucial trip to Leicester on Boxing Day.

Klopp's men were not to be deterred and returned the following year, going all the way and winning 2-0 against Tottenham in the final in June, becoming champions of Europe for a sixth time.

The former Leeds United midfielder has made 12 appearances for the European champions this season with the Reds now eight points clear at the Premier League summit.

Klopp really deserves the new contract given to him.

"When I leave at any point in my life it is important that it is still in a very good place". "I must also highlight the role of Michael Edwards in this journey so far".

"A very good player, I can say that, but I saw a few very good players on the Salzburg team, much more than I wanted", he said, before giving the game away by telling a Japanese journalist: "Maybe we will see you more often now".

It adds to an already momentous day for the club that saw the FIFA Coach of the Year Klopp also extend his stay with the club - his deal expiring in 2024.
