First Trailer For Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'In The Heights' Finally Dropped

Before Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda was better-known for writing the music and lyrics for the Tony and Grammy award-winning musical "In The Heights" that ran on Broadway from 2008 to 2011. "Un barrio called Washington Heights".

On Thursday, the first official trailer of the In the heights The film debuted with tons of familiar faces and a lot of dancing.

The success of "In the Heights" on the Great White Way was a precursor to Miranda's mega-successful "Hamilton".

In the Heights takes place in the Hispanic-American neighborhood of Washington Heights in NYC over the course of several days, as members of the community grapple with their positions in life and the shrinking nature of the neighborhood itself, thanks to gentrification.

The truck opens up with only a little girl's voice asking Usnavi (played by Hamilton alum Anthony Ramos) just what the Spanish term for "little dream" means. What's more, the project marks director Jon M. Chu's followup to last year's hugely successful Crazy Rich Asian.

Fans of the Broadway show will find plenty of similarities between the feature film and the musical in the trailer, but unlike the original production, the film adaptation ties in themes from today's social and political climate for a modern re-telling.

In the Heights is a melodious tale focusing on a Hispanic neighborhood in New York City. Joining Ramos are Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Dascha Polanco (Orange is the New Black), Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue, The West Wing), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) and so many more. The Puerto Rican celebrity played the owner of a small cool piragua stands vending icy treats. Later, Miranda created another musical blockbuster, Hamilton. Miranda has based In the Heights off of his own experiences growing up in Washington Heights as the song of Puerto Rican immigrants. This is, in fact, the year when In the Heights musical became a Broadway hit.
