USF names former Clemson assistant Jeff Scott new head football coach

South Florida has hired Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott to become the Bulls' next head coach.

The selection of the Clemson co-offensive coordinator was announced Monday by Michael Kelly, USF's Vice President of Athletics. Scott is expected to remain on staff with No. 3 Clemson throughout its College Football Playoff run.

The 38-year-old is finalizing a deal with South Florida, The Athletic's Matt Fortuna reported early Monday morning, replacing Charlie Strong, who was sacked at the end of the season. I am thankful to Coach Swinney and all the Clemson players and staff for the great experiences and lessons that have prepared me to lead USF football.

He was a Broyles Award finalist for the nation's top assistant in 2018 and had been on Clemson's staff since promotion to a receivers coach role when Dabo Swinney took over 2008. He was elevated to the rank of co-offensive coordinator in 2015, although quarterback coach Tony Elliott managed the call at stake.

South Florida is replacing Charlie Strong, who was sacked earlier this month after he went 21-16 in three seasons, but had a 4-14 record over the Bulls' past 18 games.

One of the tours earlier this year. "There will be people, we hope, at the scene of this tragedy, gathering evidence from there". On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the ministry told SBS News these transfers are "likely to begin" in the next 24 hours.

"Jeff is a very bright, enthusiastic and driven leader for our program and we are thrilled to welcome him to USF and back to Florida, where he was born and where he has recruited so well for Clemson for many years", Kelly said in a statement.

If Scott does indeed take over as the team's head coach, the school will be counting on him to try to replicate some of the success Clemson has had over the last half-decade. Clemson has won five straight ACC Championships and they have been part of five straight College Football Championship Playoffs winning two of them including one at Raymond James Stadium.

"Jeff has been with me since day one when I became interim [coach]", Swinney said in a statement.

This is a bit of a homecoming for Scott because his father Brad grew up in Central Florida in Arcadia (where Jeff was born) and he was the offensive coordinator for coach Bobby Bowden at Florida State from 1983-1993. Streeter, who is also Clemson's recruiting coordinator, is viewed as one of the top up-and-coming assistant coaches in the country. He brings national championship-level experience to USF from a very successful, highly regarded football program.
