Jaguar I-Pace Gets For Range Without Extra Charges

Jaguar I-Pace Gets For Range Without Extra Charges

The eTrophy was launched in 2018 as the world's first "all-electric production-based worldwide race series".

Optimizations to the all-wheel-drive torque management, battery, and thermal systems are in store.

The update will improve the I-Pace's regenerative braking ability at times when the battery has a high SoC, and it will regen more kilowatts at lower speeds than before.

Alongside improvements gleaned from the eTrophy series, Jaguar has also analysed data from 500 million miles of real-world journeys.

Jaguar joined the series to learn from extreme use conditions and the first findings are being used to improve the range of road-going I-Pace.

The I-Pace features a 90-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and an electric motor at each axle that together deliver a peak 394 horsepower, or enough for 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.5 seconds.

While Jaguar claims an increase of up to 12 miles of range in the update, this does not change the official certified WLTP range of 292 miles. Stick with us on this one.

Further changes include refinements to temperature control, with the active radiator vane system closing more frequently to enhance aerodynamic performance.

Jaguar is inviting I-Pace owners to take their cars to retailers to receive the free update, which will also enable enhanced over-the-air functionality.

The vehicle still ships with 470 km (292 mi) of driving range stated in the manual, but the manufacturer claims the "real range" should be at least 20 kilometers above that, although it does depend on a wide variety of factors.

"The new software updates optimise the powertrain control systems to improve efficiency and allow I-Pace drivers to travel even further on a single charge without any hardware changes - it really is a case of the vehicle getting better with age". It will allow Jaguar to improve the vehicle more efficiently and conveniently.
