"We really wanted to bring to the world a modern day Back to the Future for modern generations", Reynolds said, as he addressed the crowd.

Let me try again: in Free Guy, Ryan Reynolds plays Guy, just a bloke living a monotonous, not-at-all meaningful life as a bank worker. The film is being made under 20th Century Fox which has a pretty savage opener for the trailer, addressing the rights being bought by Disney.

The "Deadpool" star's upcoming action comedy film showcases him as a background player trapped in a video game called Free City. Directed by Shawn Levy, Free Guy will remind you of a superhero film minus the elaborate tights and costumes.

Disney criticised after minor white ‘Aladdin’ character gets a spin-off
Dunn and Kvamme have written comedy together in the past, including Operation Prince of Freedom for Fox. In Aladdin , Anders was a prince from a kingdom called Skanland and was Princess Jasmine's suitor.

When one day, he slips out of his normal upbeat demeanour, who he says he took influence from Will Ferrell's Buddy The Elf - he takes on a bank robber, and when he puts on his glasses, he realises that he is in fact in the fame.

Ryan Reynolds isn't even a mission delivering NPC in Free Guy, he's just a background character who has now made a decision to take control of his own destiny. The plot follows Reynolds, as well as Stranger Things' Joe Keery, Killing Eve's Jodie Comer, and the hilarious Taika Waititi as they navigate Free City.

Free Guy will release in the U.S. on July 3, 2020.
