Gophers to face Auburn in Outback Bowl

The Wolverines lost to SC two years ago in the 2017 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla., after losing to Florida State in the 2016 Orange Bowl in Miami.

Auburn: The Tigers knocked rival Alabama out of the playoff with a 48-45 win in the Iron Bowl.

MI (9-3, 6-3 Big Ten) will play Alabama in the first meeting between the two football programs since 2012.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN. Auburn's momentous win over Alabama in the last week of the regular season jettisoned the Crimson Tide from the College Football Playoff discussion and shored up Auburn's chances at a high-end New Year's Day bowl game.

The Outback Bowl should be fun, though.

Dunn and Kvamme have written comedy together in the past, including Operation Prince of Freedom for Fox. In Aladdin , Anders was a prince from a kingdom called Skanland and was Princess Jasmine's suitor.

Minnesota finished the season 10-2 overall and 7-2 in the Big Ten. For the Gophers, this will be their first time in the Outback Bowl.

This serves as another measuring stick opportunity for P.J. Fleck's program. Their two losses came against No. 16 Iowa and No. 8 Wisconsin, while their signature win came against No. 10 Penn State. "This has been a historic and elite season at Minnesota, and we are thrilled to be able to celebrate it in handsome Tampa, Fla., with a New Year's Day bowl game".

Most bowl projections had Auburn playing in either the Citrus Bowl or the Outback Bowl.

"The Outback Bowl is one of the premier bowl games in college football and we can't wait to invade Tampa Bay with blue and orange" Auburn athletics director Allen Greene said. And while MI won't get to participate in the New Year's Six for the third time in the Jim Harbaugh era, it looks like the maize and blue will still have a commensurate opponent. The Wolverines suffered a Week 3 setback at Wisconsin, losing by 21 points, then dropped their second Big Ten game in October to Penn State.
