White House replies to Democrats's invitation: Wasting America's time, stop future hearings

According to the New York Times, some Democrats believe the House Judiciary Committee is on track for a possible vote to impeach the president by December 20.

The White House had faced a Friday evening deadline to inform the House Judiciary Committee whether it meant to have legal representation at a hearing scheduled for Monday that will focus on the recently released House Intelligence Committee report outlining its findings against Trump.

"House Democrats have wasted enough of America's time with this charade", Cipollone wrote.

If the House passes the articles of impeachment as expected, the Senate would hold a trial on whether to convict Trump and remove him from office.

Democrats accuse Trump of abusing his power "for his own personal political benefit at the expense of USA national security by withholding military aid and a crucial Oval Office meeting in exchange for the announcement of an investigation into his political rival", as the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, put it on Thursday. "Well", Clyburn said, "we do expect to lose some, and that's why I said it's a conscious vote and it's with their constituents".

Trump denies any wrongdoing but has refused to cooperate with the inquiry, citing his privilege as president to prevent top aides from testifying.

"Whatever course you choose, as the President has recently stated: 'If you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business, '" he wrote.

In a statement Nadler accused Trump of continuing to block "key evidence" from Congress.

The White House's counsel called on the House Judiciary Committee and its chairman, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), to get the impeachment process over with and indicated the Trump administration will not participate.

"If the President has no good response to the allegations, then he would not want to appear before the committee".

He also declined on Thursday to provide specifics about the process of settling on articles of impeachment, saying only he thought the panel was 'getting there'.

Also included were the whistleblower, believed to be a Central Intelligence Agency analyst who reported his concerns about Trump's demands of Zelensky; possible government contacts of the whistleblower; White House national security official Alexander Vindman, whose earlier testimony strongly supported the allegations against Trump.

"When his own Justice Department tried to uncover the extent to which a foreign government had broken our laws, President Trump took extraordinary and unprecedented steps to obstruct the investigation, including ignoring subpoenas, ordering the creation of false records, and publicly attacking and intimidating witnesses", Nadler said.
