Nationals and Howie Kendrick agree to one-year deal

The champion Washington Nationals have reportedly agreed to terms with veteran batsman and free agent Howie Kendrick on a one-year contract for 2020.

"We really can only afford to have one of those two guys", Lerner told NBC Sports Washington on Thursday. Harper didn't sign with the Phillies until the third week of spring training. He went 18-6 with 251 strikeouts last season.

If Rendon signs elsewhere, say the Rangers or Dodgers, Philly's backup plan of Donaldson would pit them against the Nationals once again.

"We can give them a great offer, which we've done to both of those players", Lerner said. But it's not up to us; it's up to them.

A New State of Play Set to Air Live Next Week
We'll probably see something new from The Last of Us Part 2 , as that's easily Sony's biggest first-party game on the horizon. Today, the fourth State of Play episode has been announced for next week and it looks to be another filled with content.

Speaking on condition of anonymity Friday because the deal was still pending a successful physical exam, the people confirmed to The Associated Press that an agreement was in place for Kendrick to return to Washington for what will be his 15th season in the majors. "World Series momentum has blossomed, millions in DC". His grand slam in Game 5 of the National League Division Series pushed the Nationals past the Los Angeles Dodgers and deeper into the postseason than they'd ever played.

The 36-year-old is coming off a career year, a season that saw him hit 17 home runs with 62 runs batted in and a.344 batting average.

Eight years removed from his only All-Star appearance, Kendrick was clutch in the Fall Classic, delivering a go-ahead, two-run homer off Will Harris in the seventh inning of Game 7, helping the Nationals beat the Houston Astros 6-2 on the road for the franchise's first World Series championship. On that front, it's worth noting that Kendrick over the last three seasons has an OPS+ of 127.
