Impeachment witness rebukes Republican Rep. Doug Collins in opening statement: "I'm insulted"

Impeachment witness rebukes Republican Rep. Doug Collins in opening statement:

Barron's mother, first lady Melania Trump, rushed to her son's defense, tweeting that the witness who mentioned him "should be ashamed of [her] very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it".

US First Lady Melania Trump on Wednesday publicly rebuked a scholar who used her 13-year-old son's name to make a point during an impeachment hearing against the president.

"She was referring to the fact she thinks President Trump at times can act like a king because he's abusing power but she was also making a joke about the fact that the President's 13-year-old son is named Barron and baron, of course, is a noble title and she was basically making the case that he cannot be made into nobility and he won't inherit essentially the presidency".

"Let me also suggest that when you invoke the President's son's name here, when you try to make a little joke out of referencing Barron Trump, that does not lend credibility to your argument".

"Every Democrat in Congress should immediately repudiate Pamela Karlan and call on her to personally apologize to President Trump and the First lady", said a campaign press secretary.

Conway accused Melania Trump of amplifying comments made by Stanford Law School professor Pamela Karlan at the impeachment hearing, which he called a "nothingburger reference".

Viewers, however, did appear to largely agree on one thing: Trump would not be pleased. The ad was tweeted Wednesday night on Biden's account.

Constitutional scholars (L-R) Noah Feldman of Harvard University, Pamela Karlan of Stanford University, Michael Gerhardt of the University of North Carolina, and Jonathan Turley of George Washington University are sworn in prior to testifying before the House Judiciary Committee in the Longworth House Office Building on Capitol Hill in Washington on December 4, 2019. The former prosecutor who's a member of the House Intelligence and Judiciary committees had been a vocal critic of President Trump over the relationship between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russian Federation during Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

Karlan apologised later during the hearing. "And what's worse, it's met by laughter in the hearing room", she added.

"Unless you're really good on TV or watching the hearings over the last couple of weeks, you couldn't have possibly, actually digested the Adam Schiff report from yesterday or the Republican response in any real way", Collins said.

"Classless movement by a Democratic "watch". Democrats should be ashamed.

"I want to apologize for what I said earlier about the president's son", she told the panel. It was wrong of me to do that. "I wish the President would apologize, obviously, for the things he's done that's wrong, but I do regret having said that".

Mrs. Trump, 49, responded on Twitter - her first public comments about the impeachment probe over Trump lobbying Ukraine to investigate his political rivals.
