Patrick Ewing says Georgetown players 'given no special treatment'

'Georgetown University men's basketball players James Akinjo and Josh LeBlanc will not be playing for the men's basketball team effective immediately and will not be members of the team for the remainder of the season, ' read the school's statement.

The nature of Akinjo's situation is still unclear, but court records reveal a restraining order was issued in November against LeBlanc and players Myron Gardner and Galen Alexander.

No criminal charges have been filed against any of the men, local police say, but investigations are continuing.

Georgetown athletic director Lee Reed said Tuesday that LeBlanc is seeking a transfer.

Akinjo, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Oakland, is no longer on the Hoyas' roster, according to a Georgetown release Monday night.

Akinjo was averaging 13.4 points, second on the team, while LeBlanc was averaging 7.2 points.

For Magpies boss, Steve Bruce, it was a moment that went the way of his team. But, after a review by the video assistant referee , the goal was given.

Georgetown has not acknowledged any punishment levied against Alexander.

'Georgetown takes student conduct issues very seriously and ensures that they are investigated thoroughly. "While we are not able to comment on specific cases, we have processes for investigating and adjudicating alleged violations of our student code that are fair to both parties". The hearing was pushed back to December 9. The documents show a female Georgetown student has accused LeBlanc of "threats against my personal safety". Temporary restraining orders filed by a different student against LeBlanc and Alexander were granted days later.

Akinjo's name isn't mentioned in any of the court documents, according to multiple reports. The complaint also says that all three players burglarized the apartment on September 16. When subsequently contacted by video call, the suspect allegedly said to the victim, "If you tell anyone, we'll send people after you".

The Hoyas suspended LeBlanc for the season opener November 6 for an undisclosed violation of team rules, but he played in all six games after that.

Gardner and Alexander are still on the team and both appeared in Wednesday's game. He was named Big East freshman of the year after averaging 13.4 points and 5.2 assists last season. 22 Texas, before losing its past two encounters to then-No. But Coach Patrick Ewing's team then lost 81-73 to then-No. 1 Duke in NY and a home defeat of 65:61 against UNC Greensboro last Saturday. On Thursday, the Hoyas will travel to Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys; LeBlanc will not be with them.

Georgetown won the national championship in 1984 with Ewing as the starting center. The rivals have played the last four seasons.
