Navy base in Florida secured due to reports of an active shooter

A spokesman for the base also told the Pensacola News Journal that the incident was first reported around 7 a.m. Friday.

In a brief phone call, dispatch at the Naval Air Station told CNN, "We have an active situation right now" before the line was disconnected. "The shooter is confirmed dead", the department said.

"The ECSO can confirm there is no longer an active shooter on NAS Pensacola". Two civilians naval employees were killed and a third injured before Romero apparently shot and killed himself.

Naval Air Station Pensacola secured its gates Friday morning amid reports of an active shooter.

Five people have been taken to Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, said hospital spokeswoman Kathy Bowers.
