Johnny Isakson bid farewell to the Senate on Tuesday afternoon as businesswoman Kelly Loeffler angles to fill his seat amid pro-life opposition.

Isakson, who is suffering from Parkinson's disease, announced in August that he would be stepping down at the end of the year. But, following an organized advocacy campaign by many Georgia women voters, George held off his swearing-in when the Senate reconvened, allowing Felton to be sworn in and serve in the chamber from November 21 to November 22.

Interestingly enough, Trump himself was against Loeffler's appointment, preferring Rep. Douglas A. Collins (R-Ga.).

The Georgia governor was under pressure from grassroots Republican groups to appoint a staunch supporter of Trump's, such as Rep.

"Today's appointment showcases exactly where Brian Kemp's and Georgia Republicans' priorities lie: with their own special interests, instead of the people of Georgia". He's playing a central role in the impeachment inquiry of the president as the process on Wednesday moves to the House Judiciary Committee.

What can we expect from Loeffler as a senator and as a senatorial candidate leading up to Georgia's 2020 elections?

"She will be an incumbent Republican Senator", McConnell said.

In an interview on Fox News, when pressed by the host about potentially running against Loeffler if Kemp chooses her over him, Collins said, "Let's see what the governor does first. if he does, then that'll be a decision we have to make at that point".

As the opposition mounted last week, Governor Kemp tweeted "The attacks and games are absolutely absurd".

The Flyers won 4-3 in a shootout in Philadelphia on November 2 while the Leafs earned a 4-3 shootout win at home on November 9. Raffl exited the game during the second period after checking a Maple Leaf into the boards and did not return.

She was previously an executive at Intercontinental Exchange, a behemoth founded by her husband, Jeffrey Sprecher, that owns the New York Stock Exchange.

She is replacing Sen.

"I know I will have to earn the support of hardworking Georgians with my votes, priorities, and actions".

"I think Republicans and self-identified conservatives are going to understand the importance of maintaining control of that Senate seat, especially when control of the entire United States Senate could hang in the balance", said Sen.

Among the recipients in the Republican Party are multiple donations to Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign, Georgia Sen.

Loeffler is mostly known for being the co-owner of Georgia's WNBA team, the Atlanta Dream.

She went on to say that "when the women of the country come in and sit with you [in the Senate] ..." "I look forward to working with her as a member of the Georgia Delegation to support our military installations, Georgia farmers and rural communities, and especially President Trump".

To that point, Loeffler has one key asset in her favor: money.

The tension between Republicans underscores a divide within the party on how the GOP can best position itself for success in 2020: by firing up and turning out Trump conservatives or pivoting to try to win back suburban woman and moderates who have fled the party since Trump's election.
