Bournemouth, who have now lost four consecutive games to sit 12th with 16 points, failed to capitalise on their extra man though and Palace keeper Vicente Guaita was hardly troubled.

"This speculation is nonsense and I'm standing here as Bournemouth manager", Howe said.

Palace were a man down from the 19th minute when Mamadou Sakho was sent off for a reckless tackle but the hosts were the better team and substitute Schlupp sent the Selhurst Park faithful home happy with his 76th-minute victor.

"The Premier League is so tough and we now have two really tough games to come, but they are all hard. We have to do that now and we have to get a result as quickly as possible".

"We got unlucky in some of those and playing top teams, you need some luck to get some points".

"It is hard, I don't want to use it as an excuse but it is the worst time to get injuries because we have so many games and then you're stretched. It was good to have a few back from suspension, but to see Adam (Smith) limp off wasn't good".

Palace then had another setback when Patrick Van Aanholt sustained a hamstring injury and had to be replaced by Schlupp.

Dann was forced off against Burnley on Saturday due to what appeared to be an ankle injury while Cahill has a knee problem that kept him out of the Eagles' win at Turf Moor. Cheikhou did an unbelievable job for us and he has played in that position before so has experience there.

Palace survived until the break and Hodgson made a second substitution as James McCarthy came on for wide-man Andros Townsend to try and give the home side more control in the centre of midfield.
