Seahawks take over first place in NFC West, beat Vikings 37-30

They're favored by just 2.5 points per BetMGM, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is notoriously spotty in night games (he's gone 7-13 in his career on that stage, and is 3-4 there since joining the Vikings) and laid an egg in this same venue in these same circumstances past year, losing 21-7 to the Seahawks on Monday Night Football in early December. Well, they did it in classic Seattle fashion.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was 15 of 21 for 165 yards with one touchdown and running back Raheen Mostert ran 19 times for 146 yards and a 40-yard touchdown in the 49ers loss. Coming off of its bye week in Week 12 while being well-rested and ready to get back to action, Minnesota will travel to CenturyLink Field in Seattle on Monday night to play the Seattle Seahawks in a showdown between the two teams now in the two Wild Card positions in the NFC postseason layout.

The Seahawks and 49ers play each other in the last game of the season, so not only could that game decide the NFC West championship, but it might also determine the top seed in all the NFL.

When the Vikings entered the locker room at halftime, each side of the ball began plotting out ways they could sustain success in the second half.

But Minnesota only had the lead because Russell Wilson hit a batted pass up instead of down and the Vikings returned the interception for a touchdown. To add injury to insult, Cook injured his shoulder on the play and did not return for the rest of the night. Seattle turned a 17-10 halftime deficit to a 34-17 lead. And yet, it still seemed somehow to get to 34-30. Just to be sure, root for the Seahawks to win - not that Saints fans will need much encouraging to pull against the Vikings, given the rocky history between those two teams. But, a fourth-down pass intended for rookie tight end Irv Smith Jr. sailed just wide and Seattle used its ground game, which racked up 218 rushing yards on the night, to ice the game and send Minnesota to 8-4 on the season.
