Police Investigating 'Critical Incident' After Shots Reported at Wisconsin High School

There is no word yet on how bad the student, whose name has not been released, was injured.

Authorities were called to Waukesha South High School about 10:15 a.m. Monday, Assistant Fire Chief Joseph Hoffman says.

The police account comes after earlier reports indicated that the student and the resource officer exchanged gunfire.

The news comes the same day that a student at Waukesha South High School was shot by an officer when he allegedly pointed a gun he brought to school at officers. He said the resource officer went to the classroom to confront the 17-year-old suspect and move other students in the room to safety.

The tour starts in June in Portland, hits the Budweiser Stage in Toronto July 11 and, so far, ends later that month in Nashville. The Canadian singer also is releasing a new album in 2020.

The suspect is in stable condition, Waukesha Police Chief Russell Jack told reporters.

The Waukesha Police Department said on Twitter that a staging area had been set up at the Pick 'n Save grocery store near the school. They didn't immediately respond to a phone message seeking additional detail.

Parents gathered outside and hugged students as they streamed out of the school in Waukesha, which is about 18 miles (30 kilometers) west of Milwaukee.
