More rain, snow and gusty winds to hit during weekend travel rush

Flights were delayed and rescheduled due to a winter storm that dropped almost a foot of snow in the city.

In fact, just after 4 pm on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for Mercer and Bucks County.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo cut short a trip to Puerto Rico to return home and deal with the storm.

The winter storm is also bedeviling motorists around the U.S.as it dumps heavy snow from parts of California to the northern Midwest and drenches other areas with rain.

In a different incident, the bodies of a boy and a girl, both aged five, were found in central Arizona after their vehicle was swept away on Friday while crossing a swollen creek.

Four children have died, a six-year-old girl is missing and travellers are stranded after wild winter weather smashed the United States.

A day earlier in Chamberlain, South Dakota, nine people were killed when a plane crashed during blizzard-like conditions.

The is a Winter Storm Warning for Ontario, Wayne and Steuben counties until 7pm on Monday, with 6 to 12 inches of snow and around 1/4 inch of ice.

"Please be patient with plow drivers as this is expected to be a historic storm, plowing could take longer from the amount of snow projected to fall", the city said.

That eastward movement means snow, ice and powerful winds will impact post-Thanksgiving travel on Sunday and Monday, the National Weather Service warned.

Another system is forecast to develop in the mid-Atlantic Sunday, moving as a nor'easter into Monday.

Before moving east, the storm caused the death of at least one person in South Dakota and closed highways in the western USA, affecting travelers over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Federal Aviation Administration said some flights heading to Newark, New Jersey, are being delayed by an average of more than 2 1/2 hours.

At Denver International Airport, there were 100 flights cancelled on Saturday because of high winds.

The authorities in the western states were still grappling on Saturday with the aftermath of heavy rains and snow over the busiest travel weekend of the year.

Any areas other than far Northwest NJ will see a changeover to all rain for the remainder of Sunday.

Major interstates in Colorado also reopened.

High winds and ice were making travel nearly impossible in some other places, however.

Duluth said its city staff would monitor Canal Park and other areas for potential flooding and close roadways if necessary.

Wintry weather bedeviled Thanksgiving weekend travelers across the United States on Saturday as a powerful and unsafe storm moved eastward, dumping heavy snow from parts of California to the northern Midwest and inundating other areas with rain.

Of course, any bands of heavier snow will cause road conditions to deteriorate rapidly through the afternoon.

Roads were closed Saturday across eastern and southern Wyoming due to whiteout conditions.

Northeastern Colorado roads were closed because of strong winds, blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility.
