Luka Doncic having 'breathtaking' year - Mavs coach Carlisle

Luka Doncic having 'breathtaking' year - Mavs coach Carlisle

Anthony Davis scored 27 points (on 10-21 shooting), grabbed 10 rebounds, handed out two assists, and blocked two shots in the Los Angeles Lakers' 100-114 loss over Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday afternoon at Staples Center. Both Doncic and James possess that vision and passing that only a few players possess.

Doncic also had 10 assists and nine rebounds in Dallas' seventh victory in eight games.

Delon Wright chipped in 17 points off the bench, while Kristaps Porzingis and Dwight Powell added 15 points apiece. It's been a strong start for the Mavs thus far, thanks to the stellar play of the 20-year-old Slovenian.

He had 16 points and five assists in the third quarter after going 2 for 9 in the first half.

"It's a great win that means a lot to us", Doncic said. "I thought that we made good adjustments as a team". The Mavericks improved to 12-6, which is their best start since they won an National Basketball Association title in the 2010-11 season.

Carlisle said before the season that he wasn't sure if Doncic's production would improve considering the team had better players around him. There's a certain responsibility you have when you get on a roll like this. The Lakers went into the fourth quarter trailing by 15. The Lakers knew this smooth-sailing season would get rough soon enough. NL MVP Cody Bellinger and Dodgers teammate Kenley Jansen watched the game from courtside. James helped the Lakers battle back to retake the lead, but it would not last long as the two teams traded it on several occasions. Alex Caruso was the only other Laker to reach double figures in points, finishing with 10. Davis and James have meshed seamlessly, while their supporting cast has embraced new coach Frank Vogel's commitment to defense.

James and Davis stayed in the game until late in the fourth quarter, but little could be done to undo the damage.
