Amazon pulls Auschwitz-themed Christmas tree decorations and bottle openers from website

The Auschwitz museum also alerted online store Wish on Monday about the same items being sold on its website.

The Christmas merchandise featured images from Auschwitz including the railway line leading to its infamous gates, the barbed wire fences and the buildings where it housed victims - mainly Jews.

Amazon has ignited public outrage after selling Christmas ornaments decorated with pictures of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.

The ornaments are were on sale through Amazon.com for £10.05.

The bottle opener features an image of the barbed wire fencing at the camp in Poland described by the seller as "a handsome pattern nested in the middle".

The museum's tweet was liked more than 25,000 times, with some users posting screenshots of complaints they had sent to Amazon.

There were still many other products on Amazon from "Fcheng", namely other Christmas ornaments featuring less controversial scenes.

After another wave of angry responses, the memorial confirmed those products were later removed as well.

Amazon said in a statement that "all sellers must follow our selling guidelines" and that those who do not will be removed. "Thank you to those who reacted, reported and put pressure here", the Auschwitz museum tweeted.

"The products in question have been removed", the spokesperson said.

According to Amazon's policy, products "related to human tragedies" are not allowed.
