Root has everyone's backing: Ben Stokes

Root has everyone's backing: Ben Stokes

"He's England's best player and he knows he has got the full support of us in the changing room", Stokes added.

"There are 11 guys out on the field in a game who contribute to a win or loss".

Both captain and coach have preached a mantra of patience with the bat and while that may be sinking in - England's run-rate hovered at little more than two an over for most of the first day - a number of top-order players still got out to loose strokes.

Despite Stokes' claims Root's global form has been poor, with the England captain scoring just 13 runs over the two innings of that first Test.

The England and New Zealand cricket boards are investigating the incident and Archer received an apology from New Zealand Cricket chief David White, while New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has also said he will apologise to the bowler.

"The pressures of being England Test captain is huge".

Significant snowfall on the way, says Environment Canada
The city of Hamilton and Niagara along with several other parts of southeastern Ontario are under a freezing rain warning. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement about a potential storm in the Greater Toronto Area Sunday.

"I should also say it was just one person who was shouting stuff. It doesn't all fall on the captain".

"We stick together and we hold our hands up together", Stokes said.

BEN STOKES is expected to miss England's first warm-up match for their Test series in South Africa so he can attend the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony on December 15. That said I have no idea why Archer did not open the bowling on the third morning of the match with the game in the balance. They're a very strong test team and they're very good in their home conditions, as most teams are, so it's bit of wake-up call for English cricket around our focus on winning away from home.

At present, Root has captained England in 14 away Tests.

Archer, who was fast-tracked into the England side and made his Test debut during the Ashes series against Australia earlier this year, said he was fine with opposing fans having a go at him but that there was no room racism in any walk of life. The problem is that in a best-of-two series England now have to win to draw the series while New Zealand can play for a draw and hope to pick up the pieces if England implode trying to push for a result.

The first Test in New Zealand was certainly a low point, but Root will have a chance to put things right in the second Test which gets underway on Thursday in Hamilton. I got to see brothers, sisters, cousins and everything like that.
