Pregnant woman 'killed by dogs' in France

Elisa Pilarski, 29, was found dead in the Retz forest outside the town of Villers-Cotterets on Saturday after calling her partner to say she was anxious about the presence of some "threatening dogs".

A PREGNANT WOMAN has been killed by a number of dogs while walking in a forest in northern France. Police are investigating whether the dogs in the hunt were the same ones who killed Pilarski.

Ms Pilarsk bled to death after suffering bites from several dogs to her arms, legs and head, according to an autopsy report.

Samples were taken from 93 dogs in the area to determine which ones attacked her, Fox News reported.

She was six months pregnant, according to local news reports.

According to the prosecutor's office, Ms Pilarski was out walking in Retz forest, about 50 miles (80km) north-east of Paris, on Saturday when she phoned her partner, Christophe, to tell him she was anxious that a pack of dogs was about to attack her.

The attack on her transpired as she was walking her dogs in the forest.

Brigitte Bardot, president of her eponymous animal welfare foundation, declared herself deeply shocked on hearing of the case and in a letter urged Elisabeth Borne, French minister for ecological transition, to suspend "immediately all hunt authorisation for this season". One of her dogs, Curtis, was found injured and curled up beside her mutilated body.

The French hunting association said in a statement that "nothing shows the involvement of hunting hounds in the death of this woman". "There are plenty of dogs barking around", she reportedly told her husband.
