Nawaz Sharif leaves Pakistan for United Kingdom on air ambulance

An intensive care unit and an operation theatre has been set up in the air ambulance and a team of doctors and paramedics will also be on board, physician Adnan Khan said in a tweet on Monday night. Upon clearance of all medical tests and doctors' recommendations, the air ambulance took off from the airport.

Addressing a press conference alongside government's chief spokesperson Firdous Ashiq Awan after a federal cabinet meeting, the minister said the LHC will give its final decision on the PML-N petition in January after taking the cabinet sub-committee's reasoning into consideration. "We will wait and see what the consultants say and then decide if he would need to be taken to a hospital in Boston in the USA", the spokesperson said.

In December last year, an accountability court had sentenced Sharif to seven years in prison in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case and acquitted him in the Flagship case.

Speaking to Dawn newspaper, a family member of the embattled PM said, "Nawaz Sharif has finally agreed to go to London after the doctors told him categorically that they had already exhausted all medical treatment [options] available in Pakistan and going overseas is the only option left,".

Sharif was expected to be flown in an air ambulance last Tuesday but he delayed the departure due to a government request asking Sharif's family to submit a surety bond of seven billion Pakistani rupees (44.8 million dollars).

BT has said it will not work with a skills training firm while the Duke of York remains its patron as the fallout from his BBC interview continues.

The courts have granted him four weeks to receive treatment, though that can be extended pending medical advice.

Nawaz Sharif will be treated at his son Hasan's flat in the United Kingdom and a room has been reserved for it, according to Geo News. The room has been equipped with the necessary equipment as advised by doctors, said the source. Sharif will be shifted to the Harley Street Clinic in London immediately after landing.

From the United Kingdom, he is expected to be flown to the USA city of Boston where a medical appointment is already in place with a hospital.

Nawaz Sharif has always maintained his innocence and denied the corruption charges that prompted the country's Supreme Court to remove him from office in July 2017.

On the departure of the former Prime Minister, strict security arrangements were made at the airport, Nawaz Sharif reached the Haj terminal of Allama Iqbal Airport, Maryam Nawaz and other family members arrived at the Hajj terminal along with Nawaz Sharif.
