Netflix Developing 'Chinatown' Prequel Series From David Fincher & Robert Towne

As for each The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming giant's latest swing for the fences is a prequel to Chinatown, the 1974 neo-noir in which Nicholson played Jake Gittes, a P.I. who uncovers - but, in the film's bleak-o-rama summary, simply can not prevent - deep corruption in 1937 Los Angeles.

David Fincher has worked with Netflix on "House of Cards" as well as "Mindhunters" and "Love, Death & Robots".

In addition to his Oscar win for "Chinatown", Towne was nominated for his work on the screenplays for the films "The Last Detail" - another Nicholson starring vehicle - as well as "Shampoo" and "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes".

It's one of the all-time great film noirs, featuring a classic Jack Nicholson performance as Jake Gittes; a private eye who runs afoul of a major criminal conspiracy. The deal discloses that Fincher will write the pilot episode of the series.

Ex-label says Swift can sing old hits at awards show
To clarify, dick clark productions has since stated it had no involvement in BM's statement about Swift's performance. Big Machine also claimed that Swift owes the company "millions of dollars and multiple assets".

David Fincher produced "Mindhunter" for Netflix.

A director for the pilot hasn't been announced, but Fincher and Towne are credited as executive producers.

Additionally, Fincher will direct the Netflix original movie Mank, which stars Gary Oldman as real-life Citizen Kane writer Herman J. Mankiewicz. It's also a Netflix exclusive. Filling the irreplaceable Nicholson's shoes is definitely going to be a challenge for any young actor stepping into the role of Jake Gittes, but with Fincher and Towne on board, the project seems to be in good hands. Towne won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Netflix declined to comment. A sequel, "The Two Jakes", was released in 1990 with Nicholson and Towne returning.
