Mauricio Pochettino fired as Tottenham coach

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the appointment of José Mourinho as their new manager on a contract that will run until the end of the 2022-23 season, following the sacking on Tuesday of Mauricio Pochettino. He is especially an admirer of the profile of the squad, including England captain Harry Kane and his global team-mate Eric Dier who started just two league games this season under Pochettino.

The quartet all had three-and-a-half years left on their deals at the club, with it understood Levy has had to pay out £12.5million to dismiss them.

The 47-year-old leaves Tottenham 14th in the table and with just three wins from their opening 12 games of the Premier League campaign.

"Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and the beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing".

"Jose is one of the world's most accomplished managers having won 25 senior trophies", the club said.

Mourinho adds Spurs to a long list of previous clubs he has managed including Porto, Internazionale, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Levy added: "I have the utmost admiration for the manner in which he dealt with the hard times away from a home ground whilst we built the new stadium and for the warmth and positivity he brought to us".

It could also make it easier to film parts of the second season in conjunction with the second batch of episodes from season one. The series is now in pre-production in New Zealand , where the original Lord of the Rings movies were filmed.

Knowing Daniel Levy like I do, and the way the Spurs chairman likes to stay in touch with his squad, I wonder if he sensed the players were losing faith.

Jose Mourinho is primed to replace Pochettino at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, returning to coaching for the first time since being sacked by Manchester United nearly 12 months ago. "He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician".

He won Champions League titles with Porto and Inter Milan.

Champions League aside, Spurs have been in decline for some time. He has won honours at every club he has coached.

"We have to try to work hard and I think there will be a (new) manager quickly".

But can you remember who Mourinho was talking about in the quotes below? His first match in charge will be the London derby away to West Ham on Saturday.
