Rep. Eric Swalwell or Chris Matthews May Have Farted on National Television

The California congressman was doing an interview Monday on MSNBC's "Hardball" with host Chris Matthews - and while he was going on and on about Ukraine and alleged malfeasance by DT. something that sounded like a loud, wet fart blasted through the airwaves.

Swalwell answered the tweet saying, "TOTAL EXONERATION".

"Chris, up to now the evidence is uncontradicted that the president dilapidated taxpayer bucks to support him cheat an election", he talked about from the Capitol. ".an election. And the complaint that I've heard from Republicans".

"Eric Swalwell finally passed something in the halls of Congress." another person joked.

That mug-scraping excuse goes back to the days in elementary school when kids would try to muffle farts by moving a chair across the ground, or clearing their throats really loudly. In a short thread, several videos of past Hardball interviews were shared, and each seemed to contain other examples of "mystery" farts that just couldn't be held until the commercial break.

"It was 100% Chris Matthews", wrote one individual.

Perhaps unexpectedly, he quickly denied that he was responsible for the noise in a series of texts, "It was not me! Ha".

It wasn't long before the official Twitter account for Hardball waded into the fray, claiming to have pinpointed the real culprit. a coffee mug. "Get yours in the present day and let's get again to the information!"

Followers didn't exactly believe the explanation, calling them "liars" and reacting with sarcastic gifs.

As Swalwell was talking, he briefly paused and moved forward right as a loud noise, which many online immediately attributed to a fart, blasted out over the airwaves.
