Motorola's new Razr phone, on the other hand, will be smaller than a regular smartphone until unfolded to its full 6.2 inch size.

Samsung, Huawei and others have phones that fold like a book and offer a double-sized display when unfolded. Still, they often also voice concerns that today's devices are just too big. The phone is to go on sale in selected markets in Europe in December.

Samsung is launching the Galaxy Fold 5G in China but under a different name entirely.

Tablets are great, but I seldom feel the need for one when I'm out. The patent reveals a phone with a foldable design that is more compact and pocketable. But it's still a phone, and it costs hundreds more than even the priciest traditional smartphones. Like the vast majority my age at the time, I extremely simply needed a cellphone with the goal that I could feel increasingly free and contact my companions at whatever point I wanted.But until the Razr, I didn't generally mind what kind of telephone I was utilizing, insofar as it could content and make telephone calls.
