Louisiana Dem Governor Wins Reelection In Yet Another Blow To Trump

John Bel Edwards (D) defeated his Republican challenger Eddie Rispone, a wealthy businessman who had Trump's backing, to secure another term in Baton Rouge. In the aftermath of those setbacks, Trump pointed to other Republican wins in Kentucky and the MS gubernatorial race where Tate Reeves defeated Democrat Jim Hood. Polls are open at 7AM. He will get your taxes and auto insurance (highest in Country!) way down.

However, by 10PM local time, Edwards had narrowly clinched victory, with more than 96% of precincts counted.

Trump provided a link to polling locations and then minutes later tweeted: 'LOUISIANA, VOTE @EddieRispone TODAY! "He will be a great governor!"

He later added that he "took a loss" in the Kentucky governor's race earlier this month and pleaded with Louisiana voters to give him a victory.

Rispone, a wealthy entrepreneur and Republican donor who had not previously run for office, also attempted to present himself as a political outsider in the same vein as Trump.

'Without Donald Trump weighing in heavily in this race, I'm not sure that this race would be this close'.

Edwards won office back in 2015 on somewhat of a fluke.

Louisiana was the third and final state to vote on its governor after Edwards missed winning re-election in the October primary, triggering a run-off. Edwards received about 51% of the vote.

The West Point graduate and former Army Ranger opposes gun restrictions, signed one of the nation´s strictest abortion bans and talks of working well with Trump.

BioWare Edmonton, despite having different leadership now, is most likely the studio people think of when they think of BioWare. While reviewers commented on the potential in the game, it was plagued with technical issues on all platforms.

Rispone, who has largely self-funded his campaign, is attempting to align himself in lockstep with the president. The people of Louisiana know better than that.

Edwards said he spoke with Rispone.

"Tonight's win is proof that we don't have to just be a party of the coasts", said Montana governor Steve Bullock.

As of 10:30 p.m. local time with 99% of the vote counted, Mr. Edwards leads Republican Baton Rouge businessman Eddie Rispone by almost 40,000 votes out of more than 1.5 million cast, according to unofficial returns posted on the website of the secretary of state.

The president´s repeated visits appeared to drive turnout, for both candidates.

Mike Machado, 43, who works in cybersecurity, said he voted for Rispone. 'I´m not real happy with Edwards. The leading education blogger in the state, Mercedes Schneider, is hopeful still that Edwards' clout can produce a change in the state education boss, a tool of reformers. Trump held two rallies in Louisiana over the past 10 days, but the attempt at a last-minute boost was not enough to carry Rispone over the finish line.

'We want Louisiana to be No. 1 in the South when it comes to jobs and opportunity. We have to do something different, ' Rispone said. Rispone disparaged Edwards as a 'trial lawyer, ' suggesting he´s anti-business.

He had ties to unpopular former Gov. Bobby Jindal and offered few details about his agenda.

Edwards expanded Louisiana's Medicaid program, lowering the state's uninsured rate below the national average.
