Draisaitl's 5 points gives him 41 on the season, while McDavid's six points gives him 37, six points ahead of Boston's David Pastrnak whose in third with 31 points.Mike Smith played solid in net for the Oilers, making 31 saves in the win.

It was the first six-point game of McDavid's career and his second hat trick in the last three games.

"You do have those days, but you try to prepare the same way each and every night, and some nights feel great, some nights feel awful", McDavid said. "I just didn't think we were very good".

Here are five things to know about the win, which saw the Oilers again defy the odds and prove they have what it takes to be a contender following the season's 20-game mark.

Edmonton later went as the results of a Tyson Jost tripping punishment to the facility play, and McDavid forced Colorado pay with a wrister from the group Werner.

McDavid makes everything look so easy, leaving no doubt in anyone's mind that he is now the best player in the National Hockey League.

TOP PERFORMERS: Draisaitl leads the Oilers with 15 goals and has recorded 36 points. McDavid sniped another on the power play to make it 4-1 Oilers after one.

"Some nights you feel great, some nights you feel bad", McDavid said after the game. They're probably thinking in that second period, 'Hey, let's go get eight!' Or, "I can get nine!'"

"Their best players had a night tonight, and we didn't", said Colorado head coach Jared Bednar. He's also been one of the team's biggest catalysts and secondary-scorers behind just McDavid and Draisaitl, something Edmonton has needed - and still needs this season.

The Oilers captain completed the hat trick with another power-play marker 8:32 into the second. He was replaced by Antoine Bibeau after allowing five goals on 18 shots.

The Oilers scoring frenzy was fueled by McDavid (three), Nugent-Hopkins (two) and Kassian.

The first count of McDavid's night came with the advantage of the man at 13 minutes of the first period when he beat a defender and scored from inside. Some nights, you have the bounces with you, and some nights, it's on the other side.

"[It] seemed like our passing was on tonight and it was a good bounce-back game". It was the first power play goal not scored by McDavid, though he was in on it. Glenn Anderson did it twice while Taylor Hall did it once.

Less than thirty seconds into the penalty, Colorado defenceman Ian Cole failed to poke the puck out of the zone on a diving attempt.

Edmonton made it 4-1 with four minutes left in the first as McDavid waltzed through the defence and sent a rocket past Werner for his second power-play goal of the contest.
