Cortana for Android and iOS will disappear in multiple markets soon

The Windows-maker company has today confirmed that it will remove Cortana digital assistant from Android and iOS devices on January 31, 2020.

The move, however, doesn't mean Microsoft is shutting down the Cortana digital assistant. Microsoft's personal assistant will remain available on Windows 10, of course. "As part of this evolution, on January 31st, 2020, we're ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS in your market", said Microsoft on its support page.

After the shutdown, Cortana app users will not be able to use key functions such as reminders and lists.

Reports started to appear in early 2019 that Microsoft planned to change how Cortana was used fundamentally.

Can you sing like Freddie Mercury? 'FreddieMeter' app can tell you
Los Angeles, Nov 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Queen frontman and late rock legend Freddie Mercury lost a foot during his battle with AIDS. Download the custom scorecard asset directly to a device, then share it on YouTube Stories, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

It's moving Cortana into Outlook and other Microsoft 365 productivity apps, and shying away from its original attempt to position the AI helper as a direct rival to other stand-alone voice assistants. That's indicated by posts in the support forums in the UK, Canada, and Australia websites, which sounds like a global development, though there's no such word for the US. However, users can access the content in the Windows app of Cortana.

According to the support article, January 31st, 2020 will be the last day for Cortana on mobile devices. All the reminders and lists will be automatically synced to the Microsoft To Do App, which can be freely downloaded on one's smartphone. However, there's a chance that Cortana won't be removed from all the regions.

The retiring of the mobile Cortana applications and the removal of Cortana from Microsoft Launcher looks like an admission of defeat. Starting next year, the company will no longer support Cortana on either iOS or Android in certain markets.
