Ronaldo was far from a certain starter for the Euro 2020 qualifier at Estadio Algarve after being substituted in Juventus' last two matches.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo scored another hat-trick, moving closer to 100 global goals, as he led the European champions to a 6-0 drubbing over Lithuania in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Thursday.

The goals take Ronaldo up to 98 on the all-time worldwide scoring charts, while Lionel Messi is still on 68 with Argentina.

"I never had any doubts about his condition, it was other people who had them", he told RTP.

"I asked him if he was okay to play, it was just a case of having a conversation with him", he said.
