The Witcher Netflix Series Secures A Second Season

The Witcher Netflix Series Secures A Second Season

Usually, Netflix waits for the approval of audiences before announcing a second season of a show, but the streaming service is so confident in The Witcher that they've announced a second season before the first has even aired.

Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner for Netflix's hotly anticipated new fantasy series The Witcher that's based on a popular series of books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski which also spawned a video game franchise, has already made it clear she has multiple seasons of the show mapped out. Geralt hunts down monsters who kill mythical beasts for money. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a risky secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together. With the show coming back for season 2 already, it seems clear Netflix has a longterm plan in place for this series. "The Witcher has been renewed for Season 2!" Additionally, Jodhi May appears as Queen Calanthe, alongside Björn Hlynur Haraldsson as King Eist Tuirseach, Adam Levy as Mousesack, MyAnna Buring as Tissaia de Vries, Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla Vigo, Therica Wilson-Read as Sabrina Glevissig, and Emma Appleton as Princess Renfri.

"I've [mapped out stories] for seven seasons", Hissrich confirms to SFX.

Alibaba to spend more on travel, entertainment after $13.4bln listing
Including a typical "greenshoe", or overallotment option, to sell some extra shares, the sale could raise up to US$13.4 billion. The oil producer is expected to raise between $20 billion and $40 billion in an IPO expected to price in the coming weeks.

With Game of Thrones formally over and Amazon's Lord of the Rings firmly far on the horizon, The Witcher is certainly making a compelling case to become a new go-to hit saga. However, Hissrich also ominously suggested that not all of the characters would make it out of season one intact.

The Witcher is set to premiere on December 20 on Netflix.
