Mark Wahlberg Will Play Sully In The UNCHARTED Movie

If the deal goes through, Wahlberg will portray Victor "Sully" Sullivan, the older treasure-hunting mentor to Tom Holland's Nathan Drake. However, Sony eventually chose to move forward with a Nathan Drake origin story for the Uncharted film, with Tom Holland ultimately being cast as the young adventurer. In 2010 he signed on to star in the film as Nathan Drake, with Robert DeNiro to play his father and Joe Pesci his uncle.

Variety is reporting that Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter, The Departed, Transformers: The Last Knight) is in final negotiations to play Sully in Uncharted, the video game feature adaptation from Sony starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. The character of Sully has appeared in multiple Uncharted adventures as a main character and ally to Drake.

This Uncharted movie, huh? Years ago, he was originally up for the role of Nathan Drake when David O. Russell was attached as the director.

Travis Knight (CEO of Laika Studios and director of Paramount's Bumblebee) is now helming Uncharted, which had also tapped Neil Burger, Shawn Levy, and Dan Trachtenberg to direct at different points in time.

Rafe Judkins is penning the script with the team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Fans of the Naughty Dog video game series of the same name know that Sully is the mustachioed, cigar-chomping, and treasure-loving friend/mentor of Nathan Drake.

Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing the film through Atlas Entertainment, as well as Avi Arad and Ari Arad through Arad Productions.

Filming is said to begin next year. Since then, it has already sold more than 41 million copies. It's only now, after the creation of PlayStation Productions on the Sony Pictures lot in California, that this movie is finally moving ahead after all these years.
