Snow Heading This Way: Winter Weather Advisory Issued

The National Weather Service says a mix of rain and/or snow is expected Monday. The bulk of the snow will fall after daybreak Monday and roads may be slick for the Monday morning commute.

A brief period of freezing drizzle is possible before transitioning over to snow.

A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Waterloo Region and Wellington County.

Crawford, Audubon, Cass, and Adams Counties in Southwest Iowa are included, but on the western edge of the Advisory from 9:00 p.m. this evening to noon on Monday. Winds gusting as high as 30 miles per hour.

Expect patchy blowing snow at times, reduced visibility, hazardous roadways covered in ice and snow, and wind chills as cold as -5º to -15º. The surface low is expected to deepen as it moves to the northeast across eastern Pennsylvania into northern New England Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will dip into the teens Tuesday night and we'll be flirting with record lows. On Tuesday, as the system pulls out of the area quickly in the morning, the cold Canadian air mass will blast into the area and allow lake effect snow showers to continue se of Lake Ontario most of the day. The location of that heavy band will likely determine who sees the heaviest snow.
