WhatsApp Adds ‘Catalog’ Feature In India; Likely To Help Small Businesses

Catalogs will make it easier for users to learn about certain products and services they may be interested in on WhatsApp, courtesy of WhatsApp Business. This is a more professional-looking way for businesses to engage with their clients and keep them invested in the chat.

The new feature will allow a business to add information like price, description and product code for each item in its catalogue.

Catalogs are available now for Android and iOS in the U.S., the UK, India, Germany, Indonesia, Brazil and Mexico, and WhatsApp says it intends to roll them out worldwide in the near future. The instant messaging app has launched a new feature called catalogs in the Business app that is available to businesses using the WhatsApp Business app in India, Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the US. WhatsApp has released a video guide on how to use the feature so that any business can create their own page. "Previously businesses had to send product photos one at a time and repeatedly provide information - now customers can see their full catalog right within WhatsApp", said WhatsApp in a blog post.

While WhatsApp Business is bringing pretty innovative ideas, the Facebook-owned messenger can be a plausible marketing platform for all online businesses, in the nearest future.

WhatsApp further said that using this feature, people can save storage space on the phones of both the businesses and their customers as the platform will be the one hosting the information on its servers. Other than that, businesses are also able to display different types of products and services that they offer on a single page. WhatsApp Business app users can check out the feature right away. Adding this, customers do not need to go to the website to check the details of the products. India, Indonesia, and Brazil are at the forefront. WhatsApp says it will be rolling out the feature around the world soon. WhatsApp states that the whole goal of WhatsApp catalogs is to showcase and share what products and services businesses offer.
