In addition to winning out in convincing fashion, Alabama's playoff hopes would increase again dramatically if Oklahoma loses and the Pac-12 produces a two-loss conference champion.

Penn State entered the game with a fearsome defense, ranking second in the nation for fewest points allowed.

Even though the computer numbers really liked Minnesota (No. 10 in SP+ after Week 10), it was fair to be a little skeptical of the Gophers given their shaky non-conference performances and the series of wins over bad Big Ten teams, nearly all of whom played backup quarterbacks.

It was a long, arduous game for Minnesota.

He came out firing on the first drive of the game, making a couple impressive throws before spotting one perfectly on a go route to Ja'Marr Chase back shoulder to deliver the game's first touchdown. Minnesota obliged by trying to throw on second down - a highly peculiar call - and Morgan was sacked for a 10-yard loss to bring up third-and-21. However, they missed the extra point, keeping Minnesota's 24-19 lead.

The Penn State players appeared numb and in disbelief after the game.

Tanner Morgan tosses three touchdown passes and Minnesota's defense comes up with three interceptions as the Golden Gophers hang on to beat Penn State, 31-26. On fourth down, Clifford looked for his star wide receiver junior KJ Hamler in the end zone, but redshirt senior cornerback Chris Williamson played the ball perfectly and swatted it away in the corner of the end zone.

Minnesota, on the other hand, was disrespected to the tune of a No. 17 ranking in the CFP, despite also being 8-0.

Head coach P.J. Fleck got some incredible performances from stars on both sides of the field as the Gophers shocked the college football world. "That's why you take the job". He finished with seven catches for 203 yards, the second-most in program history. At risk of second-guessing Franklin by playing the results, it was fairly early in a close game for him to go for two.

"Trust me when I tell you, we are going to practice this week harder than we've ever practiced", said senior linebacker Carter Coughlin.
