Cruz and Garver win Silver Sluggers

Louisville Slugger, the Official Bat of Major League Baseball, announced the winners of the 2019 Silver Slugger Awards Thursday night. This marks the Twins' third time having a pair of teammates earn Silver Slugger Awards in the same season, joining Mauer and Justin Morneau in both 2006 and 2008.

Bregman, 25, hit.296 (164x554) with 37 doubles, 41 home runs, 112 RBI, five stolen bases and a 1.015 OPS (.423 OBP/.592 SLG) in 156 games for the Astros this season.

He previously won in 2018 as one of the Milwaukee Brewers - and in 2016 as one of the Miami Marlins.

Garver had 32 home runs and 67 RBI (30 homers and 65 RBI as a catcher). Garver joins five-time Silver Slugger victor Joe Mauer as the only Twins catcher to earn the honor.

Former LSU infielders Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros and DJ LeMahieu of the New York Yankees have been named winners of the 2019 Silver Slugger Award. He was also named the victor of the Hank Aaron Award; he received that trophy at the World Series.

The selections for the Silver Slugger are based on a combination of offensive statistics, including batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage, as well as the managers' and coaches' general impressions of a player's overall offensive value.

The awards go to the top offensive players at each position and are voted on by American League coaches and managers. He set a Twins record with a .639 slugging percentage.
