Arsene Wenger to hold talks about Bayern Munich job next week

Arsene Wenger to hold talks about Bayern Munich job next week

Kovac departed a day after the team slumped to a 5-1 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern's heaviest Bundesliga defeat in over 10 years.

"I could not answer at that moment and out of politeness I called him back".

The Bundesliga club discussed the potential of the former Arsenal manager taking over from Niko Kovac, but chose to pursue other options.

Bild were reliably informed by Bayern on Thursday that they would not be considering the former Arsenal boss, and this interview clearly shows Wenger's own frustrations with how the club handled the situation.

Wenger says he told Rummenigge that he would think about it and "we decided together" to talk again "next week because I am in Doha until Sunday night. This is the true story", said Wenger. We talked for four to five minutes maximum and he told me they had assigned [Hans-Dieter] Flick to be the coach - he will manage the next two games.

However, speaking to beIN SPORTS, Wenger insisted that Bayern have actually asked him about his interest in the job, and he is now debating whether or not he wants to take the position.

Wenger denied that and said that the two men had had a brief chat in which he was asked if he would be interested in the Bayern coaching role.

They are just at a turning point because (president Uli) Hoeness, a key figure in this club, will leave.

Personally, I wish Bayern good luck.

While the result will help Hansi Flick's hopes of staying in charge of Bayern until at least the end of the season, Lucien Favre's position at Dortmund is now beginning to look uncertain. "I don't want to have stress with him", the former Germany worldwide said after the game on Saturday.

"During the talks, which are due in the next few weeks, we will certainly talk first about Hansi Flick", Hoeness said.

"Bayern played much better than us".
