The assurance came from the Health Ministry, which is now engaged in a robust Influenza Vaccination Drive for the 2020 Flu Season, which runs from October 2019 to July 2020.

Dr. Dean Kelaita, Health Officer, is urging Calaveras County residents to get vaccinated against influenza (the flu) this season as soon as possible.

"Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your family and others from the flu and help keep our community healthy", said Rhea County Health Department Director Vicki Carr. Quadrivalent flu vaccine is still available, but the high dose flu vaccine is sold out.

"The Detroit Free Press passed along some important information to know about getting vaccinated." When you do receive the flu shot every year decreases the risk of becoming sick.

Louisiana and Puerto Rico remain "hot spots" for the flu so far this season, but Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, Tennessee and Texas also reported "local or sporadic activity".

Schools are to cancel flu vaccinations for thousands of young children amid a national shortage of supplies.

"Typically the flu starts to circulate in late fall, so this is why we are reminding residents to get their flu shot early to prevent illness in our community", Eileen de Villa said. These individuals and those who live with or care for them should "especially" get the flu shot.

The flu virus spreads mainly by droplets made when infected people cough, sneeze or talk.

Each year, flu causes millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and, sometimes, tens of thousands of deaths in the United States.

In the United Kingdom, the British HIV Association recommends that people living with HIV should be offered a vaccine containing four different types of flu virus - a quadrivalent vaccine of two A-strains and two B-strains.

The average time for manufacturing vaccines and ensuring their availability in the market is approximately 2 years, although flu vaccines are launched in the market in a period of around 6 months. Flu shots may also be available through your physician and at select pharmacies.
