Playtonic Not Working on a New Banjo Kazooie Game

Playtonic responded with: "We're not at all working on the Banjo-Kazooie IP", with a smiley face.

After some personnel shifts at the studio, fans started to speculate that Playtonic is working on a proper Banjo sequel as part of Microsoft Game Studios, and that speculation has gotten far enough out of hand that the developer had to shut it down. Over on ResetEra, user mazi hypothesised about what recent hirings over at the studio and tweets from its employees could mean, referencing the hiring of Ed Bryan, a character artist for Banjo-Kazooie, and even his tweet about his Microsoft bag "coming out of retirement".

Both suggestions were addressed in a statement released by Playtonic on Twitter.

This was then followed by Platonic's co-owner updating his LinkedIn profile to state that the studio is working on "game #3, #4 and the #5 one too which is the one I always thought would be game #1".

While it's not the news Banjo fans are hoping for, it does sound like Playtonic are gearing up to work on something new, which sounds good to us.

"We wanted to address the speculation now swarming our mentions", said the company. "With that said, we are keen to continue progressing as a studio, carrying the experience of games we worked on, old and new, to create new characters and adventures for you to (hopefully) love".

They also say that "the ball isn't in our court" and that they'd love to work with the duo again. Well, Playtonic made a decision to set the record straight. The statement was issued following a day of online rumors suggesting such.
