Els names rookies Im, Niemann in Presidents Cup captain's picks

Els names rookies Im, Niemann in Presidents Cup captain's picks

Hadwin, from Abbotsford, B.C., made his Presidents Cup debut two years ago when the global team lost 19-11 to the United States at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J. South Africa's Ernie Els made Hadwin one of his four captain's picks on Wednesday night, along with Australia's Jason Day, Chile's Joaquin Niemann and South Korea's Sungjae Im.

The four picks, which were announced Wednesday evening, round out what is the youngest worldwide team with six rookies, but Els didn't see that as a drawback following more than two decades of futility in the biennial matches for the global side.

Cameron Smith, Abraham Ancer, Haotong Li, C.T. Pan, Im and Niemann get their first taste of it.

Among his picks were Jason Day, who will be playing for the fifth time, and Adam Hadwin, who made his debut in 2017.

He then turned to Canada to add Adam Hadwin for his second Presidents Cup start, primarily based on some outstanding recent form.

Hadwin, 32, played in New Jersey two years ago when the worldwide team was soundly defeated, but is determined to make his second appearance more successful. "One of the hard calls I had to make was to Corey".

Els, 50, played in the competition eight times and holds a 20-18-2 record despite being on just one winning team.

All three have already testified behind closed doors in the first phase of the investigation. The marquee appearance teed up for next week may well be Taylor's.

For Ernie Els, this was about form, not experience.

"I think it's something I've proven I can do over the last few years", said Hadwin.

He made his debut two years ago when the worldwide team lost 19-11 to the United States at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. Looking at all the stats, I wanted good driving, good ballstriking, obviously, but putting is very important. "With this Presidents Cup approaching and me starting to play some good golf again, I'm just hungry for a second chance". He won the 2018 Latin American Amateur Championship, which gave him an invitation to the Masters.

Adam Hadwin (No.18) will make his second consecutive Presidents Cup appearance and first as a captain's pick.

"I'm really excited by the new blood that's come in and we have experience too". Unlike the Ryder Cup, where the captain's picks are decided two weeks before the matches, the Presidents Cup is still six weeks away.

Niemann, ranked 54, became the first player from Chile to win on the PGA Tour when he triumphed at the Greenbrier in September and the 21-year-old followed up with tied 12th in a high-quality field at the CJ Cup in South Korea last month. He also had no concern in the fact Im and Niemann will be just 21. The 32-year-old Canadian already has two top-five finishes this season, including a runner-up finish at the Safeway Open, and is now ranked No. 44 in the world.

Woods will announce his four captain's picks for the United States on Friday (0000 GMT) and is expected to pick himself following his victory in the Zozo Championship in Japan last month.
