Bernie Sanders set for ‘vigorous’ campaign return after heart scare

Although both Warren and Sanders courted Ocasio-Cortez's endorsement, the freshman congresswoman told MSNBC during an interview ahead of the rally that she had a "moment of clarity" about the role she wanted to play in American politics. Since the heart attack, Sanders' support has slipped in national polls, but only slightly.

He said he was 'more ready than ever to carry on with you the epic struggle that we face today.

"They want us to believe that the only reality that we can live under is the status quo, that real change is impossible", said Sanders, also slamming moderate Democrats who questioned the affordability of his proposals during a debate in OH on Tuesday night. Ocasio-Cortez, in a massive rally of Bernie Sanders in her Queen's NY constituency, revealed that she calls Sanders "tio Bernie" which means "uncle Bernie" in English. Rowan-Duggan has supported Sanders with contributions, but this was the first event she attended.

Beyond health concerns, Sanders suddenly finds himself looking up at progressive rival Elizabeth Warren and establishment favorite Joe Biden in the polls.

"I'm proud to say that the only reason that I had any hope in launching a longshot campaign for Congress is because Bernie Sanders proved that you can run a grassroots campaign and win in an America where we nearly thought it was impossible", Ocasio-Cortez said.

Sanders said he would invest in public housing and education and write off medical debts, but warned that elites in politics, business and the media were working against his plans to address inequality.

Sanders also said he believes his campaign does not have to choose between persuading undecided voters on the issues and energizing his existing supporters on the far left.

Zimbwa hopes Ocasio-Cortez's endorsement will bring more people to support Sanders, rather than Warren.

To raucous applause, he declared: 'I am back'.

Each ladies are participants of what they call "The Squad", an outspoken, leftist group of four rookie, youthful and racially various congresswomen whom the president has accused of hating The United States.

Bernie Sanders' rally in Queens, New York drew some 20,000 folks. When I was a child that relied on CHIP [Children's Health Insurance Program] so that I could see a doctor, Bernie Sanders fought for a single-payer health care system.

Earlier this week, Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota also announced her endorsement of Sanders.

On a late September weekend, the New York Democrat visited Burlington, Vermont, where she, Sanders and a couple of close aides met for dinner, according to a source familiar with discussions.

Sanders, after taking the stage to AC/DC's "Back in Black" song, launched into a wide ranging critique of an unequal U.S. society beset by what he described as the corrupting influence of corporate power.

Earlier this year, he told them to "go back" to other countries - though they are all USA citizens.
