Zion Williamson Will Reportedly Be Out for Several Weeks with Knee Injury

While all indications are the Williamson will make a full recovery and will not need surgery, it'll be disappointing for fans, who will likely have to wait until at least after October to catch their first glimpse of the phenom.

Zion Williamson - the Duke sensation whom the New Orleans Pelicans selected first overall in the 2019 NBA Draft - will miss a "period of weeks" to start his NBA career with a right knee injury, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. He returned in the preseason and was excellent, averaging 23.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 27.3 minutes per game across four contests, but Williamson didn't travel with the team to NY for Friday's preseason game against the Knicks, instead staying in New Orleans for further testing. In a previous post, it was detailed how he got off on the right foot and formally announced his coming.

New Orleans opens its much anticipated 2019-20 schedule Tuesday against the defending champion Toronto Raptors in Canada. Williamson played in all four of the Pelicans preseason game. If not, Derrick Favors or Jahlil Okafor could take Williamson's place in the early going, NBA.com reported. Most know about that shoe burst at Duke although injury woes go all the way back to his high school days. Williamson played 30 minutes in that game.

A former big man in the National Basketball Association had already advised Williamson not to gain too much weight. Should Williamson's knee injury prove to be a lingering issue, that will certainly spell trouble for a franchise that has essentially assembled a its roster around him.
