Republicans anxious by Mulvaney's confirmation Trump sought exchange of favors with Ukraine

Donald Trump will be hosting next year's Group of Seven economic summit of developed world leaders at one of his own properties, the Trump National Doral golf resort near Miami, the White House said on Thursday.

In a stunning display of apathy about President Trump's apparent efforts to promote his business and his reelection prospects while conducting foreign policy, acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Thursday made several startling admissions during a press briefing at the White House. The look back to what happened in 2016 certainly was part of the thing that he was anxious about in corruption with that nation.

He denied there was a quid pro quo and said, "We do that all the time with foreign policy".

A reporter told Mulvaney that he admitted to a quid pro quo by acknowledging that Ukraine's aid was contingent on them conducting an investigation that could help Trump politically.

Jerry Nadler, the chairman of the powerful Democratic-led House Judiciary Committee called the decision "among the most brazen examples yet of the president's corruption". But that's it. And that's why we held up the money.

"It became apparent at the end of that process that Doral was by far and away, far and away, the best physical facility for this meeting", Mr Mulvaney said. "There is going to be political influence in foreign policy".

"Let me be clear, there was absolutely no quid pro quo between Ukrainian military aid and any investigation into the 2016 election", he said. Some entering the U.S. Capitol room where U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland was testifying said they had not seen the press conference. Another of Trump's Florida resorts where he has hosted high-level diplomacy was ruled out: "Mar-a-Lago was not close to being sufficient for the G7", Mulvaney said.

Officials at the department were confused and angry that Mulvaney invoked the Justice Department inquiry, according to a person familiar with the matter. "As long as it doesn't violate any law...the president gets to use who he wants to".

He has also said the withholding of aid has nothing to do with potential probes into Joe and Hunter Biden.
