Reliance Jio Claims Airtel, Vodafone Are Fraudulently Misusing IUC Regime

Nearly all the major telecom companies of India including Reliance Jio, Vodafone-Idea and Airtel are trolling each other over 6 paise per minute calling charges.

At the same time, it has led to undue enrichment of older operators, Jio said, asking Trai to take "immediate cognizance of these serious violations".

For your information, tell us that it was being said that whenever Jio users call any other operator's number, they will have to pay a charge of 6 paise per minute.

A fresh war of words has broken out between Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel over the former charging users for voice calls to other networks following TRAI's decision to review the scrapping of interconnect usage charge from January 2020. Now, Jio will charge Rs 0.06 per minute for voice calls made by its users to those who may be using Airtel or Vodafone Idea connections. However, the telecom network had to face a lot of criticism over it and now to cool the heat off, Jio mentioned that it would offer 30 minutes of free talk time to customers.

The Mukesh Ambani company hit at the rivals, saying this implementation of masquerading the wireline number as mobile numbers is a case of deliberate and fraudulent attempt made by incumbents to illegally extract mobile termination charge of 6 paise/minute from originating operator, whereas in reality the call is getting terminated on a wireline network.

Close doesn’t count for winless Dolphins; Bills are next
It certainly was the case last week that the Dolphins moved the ball better with Fitzy under center than a struggling Rosen. Rosen, meanwhile, has 58 of his 109 goals for 567 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions in five games (three starts).

At the time, Jio said it had 331 million subscribers at the end of June, however Samsung said on Tuesday that number had risen to over 340 million by the end of August.

Jio also backed its charging, saying it paid almost Rs 13,500 crore as IUC charges to rivals Airtel and Vodafone-Idea in the past three years.

It said this situation changes the nature and character of a call from "mobile to wireline network" to "mobile to mobile network".

Mr. Oommen said that the delay in implementation of zero IUC will act as an incentive for other telcos to stay away from new and more efficient technologies, adding that any regulatory intervention at this stage that envisages continuance of IUC will benefit the incumbents. Thus, even when the calling party is dialling the mobile number, all such calls are actually terminating on the fixed lines without ever touching the mobile network of the terminating operator.

Disclosure: Reliance Industries, the promoter of Reliance Jio, also controls Network18, the parent company of CNBCTV18.com.
