6 questions looming over the crowded 2020 Democratic debate

Warren also called on other presidential candidates "to disclose any donor or fundraiser who has a special title on their campaign, including national and regional finance committee members and bundler designations, and to disclose the dates and locations of their fundraising events and the names of every person who appears on a host committee on invitations tied to those events".

"The impeachment must go forward", thundered Warren, the progressive senator who is neck and neck with former vice president Biden at the head of the 2020 nomination race - a stance loudly echoed by her fellow Democrats on stage.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar used this as an opening to also attack Warren for not directly making that point herself.

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, who sponsored a bill in the Senate to create a Medicare for All plan, said he thought it was " appropriate to acknowledge that taxes would go up" under the proposal.

Buttigieg made the remark after debate moderator Marc Lacey asked Warren to answer "yes" or "no" as to whether her plan would raise taxes on middle-class families.

The debate will be Biden's first chance to fire back at Trump before a national audience.

The candidates discussed the prospect of impeaching President Trump, the accusations of corruption being lobbed at Biden's son Hunter - which Cooper pointedly brought up in a question to Biden - health care and how to pay for Medicare for All, compensating for job losses due to automation, raising taxes on the wealthy, the President's withdrawal of US troops from Syria, O'Rourke's controversial proposal of a mandatory buy-back of assault weapons, tackling the opioid epidemic and Sanders' recovery from his recent heart attack.

Foreign policy has often been an afterthought in the previous debates, which has allowed candidates with little experience on the world's stage to breeze past a hugely consequential subject. She received 40 percent of that vote while Biden received 16 percent.

Here are four other takeaways from the Democratic debate.

Warren answered that she was "deeply grateful" that then-President Barack Obama supported her efforts, implying that Biden didn't help. Tuesday's will feature the most women on a single presidential debate stage in US history. Some candidates certainly think so. That's been good news for the top-tier candidates and not-so-good news for those struggling near the bottom.

Seven candidates will not be on the stage - Colorado Sen.

How can you tune in to learn more about the candidates? Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard was also late to sign on, warning that the impeachment process would further split an already divided nation.

In a swipe at Trump, Warren also said she would ban administrations from using campaign contributions as a basis for selecting USA ambassadors, saying on Twitter that Trump had "perfected the act of selling swanky diplomatic posts to rich buffoons".
