The fur law bars residents from selling or making clothing, shoes or handbags with fur starting in 2023. These laws typically give immediate family members and law enforcement the ability to petition a court to take away a person's right to keep and bear arms.

"This issue is about much more than animal welfare in the fur industry", Keith Kaplan, a spokesman for the industry lobbying group, said in a statement.

California has become the first state to pass legislation that forces schools to open later with the aim to promote the health of students.

Apart from protesting against Trump's plan to expand oil extraction in California, Newsom said in a news release that they would refocus the geological energy of the state to consider the wellbeing of his people and the safety of the existing oil wells in the state. "The passage of this landmark piece of legislation shows that as a society we are progressing towards a more compassionate future".

Gov. Newsom said his state was sending a message "to the world that handsome wild animals like bears and tigers have no place on trapeze wires or jumping through flames". Leather, cowhide, shearling and fur products used for religious purposes are exempt from the law.

Gonzalez had introduced a similar bill a year ago, which was vetoed by then-Gov.

Although the measure was praised by animal rights groups, others were less welcoming of the bill, such as the Fur Information Council of America, which has already threatened to sue. He went on to say fake fur is not a renewable or sustainable option. Under the law, only domesticated cats, dogs and horses will be allowed in performances in California.

Thanks to this support, developers now have the option of creating Alexa skills designed for Spanish-speaking users. Amazon Music is getting a little extra Spanish flavor too, with new playlists available focused around Latin music.

Circuses have been declining in popularity for decades.

When the dust settled on Sunday, the legal deadline to act, Newsom had largely given legislators what they wanted.

The state of California's ban follows in smaller, localized regulation of fur. "It is about the end of animal use of any kind".

At first, critics warned the proposal was too broad and would impact county fairs, wildlife rescues or rehabilitation organizations.

The law includes penalties of up to $25,000 per day for each violation.

California Governor Gavin Newsom called the ban "one of the strongest animal rights laws in U.S. history".

The law has been heralded by advocates of childhood assault survivors as a new opportunity for now-adult victims to find justice and closure, in some cases decades after experiencing abuse and trauma at institutions such as schools, churches and other youth-serving organizations.
