Shoppers evacuated from Town Center mall, reports of shots fired

There's been a reported shooting at a mall in Boca Raton, Florida.

Alexander said authorities still are trying to pinpoint exactly what set off the disturbance. He said they are "getting to the bottom" of what caused the panic.

Police said they had responded to reports of shots fired, and were still searching the mall. The victim was found inside the food court, where the entirety of the incident likely occurred, he added.

Others inside the mall suffered minor injuries they received from tripping and falling, according to the chief.

Alexander spoke at a news briefing, saying most people had since left the upscale Boca Raton mall, though some were still inside Sunday evening while still awaiting evacuation by officers.

A weapon has not been recovered, Alexander said.

The police agency tweeted earlier Sunday afternoon urging people to avoid the area in and around Town Center mall and to "shelter in place".

Videos taken by users on social media showed shoppers running toward the exit as several armed officers headed to a mall entrance.
