New Orleans Fire Department spokesperson Tim McConnell said the structure of the upper building remains very unstable. He confirmed three people are still missing, and it is unknown whether they walked off from the site or are trapped.

Health officials said that 18 people have been transported to the hospital and one person refused emergency care.

"It's still a very risky situation", he said.

News outlets report several construction workers had to run to safety Saturday as the Hard Rock Hotel, which has been under construction for the last several months, came crashing down.

A construction project turned into a disaster when the top floors of a Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans collapsed, leaving at least one person dead and the danger of another collapse a possibility.

WWL-TV aired and tweeted a viewer's dramatic video of the collapse.

The cause wasn't immediately known.

"It sounded like a - I don't know how to describe it - like a building coming down", said Matt Worges, according to Nola.com. As dust settled following the morning collapse, twisted metal, concrete pilings and other wreckage covered part of Rampart Street.
